From the Summer of 1975
The Erskines they started out bravely,
With Pete to get into the show
But with so much weight between them,
They couldn't quite get it to go.
On a very calm day on Dudley Bay
The Captain was all at sea
The wind was failing
And John was Ayling
So he got the tail-end Charlee.
The wind was quite bad at McKenzie's
Alex shot the gun in dismay.
His beautiful daughter
Had gone into the water
And somebody towed her away.
Burt Worth is a very good sailor
And has been for many long years
But alas, and alack,
When Joe Leckie came back
His curses are mixed with his tears.
McMechans were ready to go at last.
And Norma was sitting before the mast.
She called from her place
"Will you please start the race?
I have left my stove on full blast!"
John Gray is a fairly new sailor
In a pretty turquoise Albacore
And he gets along well
So you hardly could tell
That his wife sails his ship from the shore.
We all get together to vote
For the best-dressed sailor afloat.
And he is Les Vickers in lovely blue knickers,
That just happens to match his blue boat.
In the Overend boat on a race day
They were sailing along with the tide.
Jan couldn't quite agree
With Bruce's strategy,
So he tossed her right over the side.
We on the shore have wondered why
And how Gary can make the Todd boat fly,
When Bud seems to have something else on his mind
Because he keeps dragging his anchor behind.
Ode To The Bala Sailing Club
Author unknown
There was a young man from Muskoka
Who'd rather go sailing than polka
So he passed on the dance
Caught the wind in his pants
And tacked up the bay for a cola
There was a young girl from Bala
Who went on a boat with a fella
As she started to flirt
The wind lifted her shirt
And she said “Life’s more fun with a sailor”
