Sailing Rules

Rick Butler is the Sailing Captain responsible for keeping us abreast of the rules. Each week at the get-together after the race, he will go over some points we might need to know. Please bring any race/rule related issues to the Sailing Captain. If you would like Rick to review a particular sailing rule or issue, please do not hesitate to ask him.

The Race Scene

• There will be one start for all sailboats, unless more smaller boats participate this year. Race will begin at 2 p.m. sharp!
• The course is triangular with one leg to windward. The committee boat for start and finish will be located in the centre of the windward leg.
• Race Cancellation – Before the race starts: the Commodore (or designate) and the race captain will decide a NO GO situation by 12:00 noon on the day of the race and notify the hosts and sailors. Your co-operation is appreciated (if asked) to assist with telephone calls to get the word to all members quickly.

Committee (Start) Boat Crew Duties

• Race Cancellation – During the Race: The Start Committee will decide a NO GO situation if storms threaten. In the case of light winds, a limit of one lap or one hour, whichever is decided by the Committee team, may be enforced.
• Start of Race: The Committee Boat will control the start of a race. Boats crossing the line before the horn will be hailed to restart. If too many cross the line before the horn, the Committee will sound a general recall (2 blasts) and start the race again
